Vodafone UK and Telefónica UK agreed to pool the basic parts of their network infrastructure to create one national grid running each operator’s independent mobile spectrum. The 2012 project – known as Project Beacon – created two competing networks, initially focussed on 2G and 3G coverage but with the foundation to expand into new technologies including 4G. A new 50/50 joint venture company was created to consolidate both operator’s existing basic network infrastructure. The deep passive and active network share was one of the most innovative network sharing deals seen in the telecoms market.
Purvi Parekh led the integrated commercial team on the project during her time working at a boutique London law firm.
